Urology/ Andrology Department

Founded in 1994, the Department of Urology / Andrology is a key medical specialty and a key discipline of Sichuan Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SATCM), a clinical training base on andrology of Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine, and an urology/ andrology center of integrative medicine that integrates scientific research and teaching in southwest China. We have inpatient section, outpatient section and andrology teaching and research section. We have 12 consulting rooms in the outpatient section, and provide special outpatient service, famous doctor’s outpatient service.

We have 58 beds, with more than 1500 discharged patients and about 70000 inpatient attendance per year. About 800 inpatient operations and 650 outpatient operations are conducted every year.

We have 36 medical staff, 22 doctors and 14 nurses, including 7 with senior title, 9 with deputy senior title, 9 with intermediate title and 11 with junior tittle. Among them there are 2 doctoral tutors, 9 master tutors, 8 with doctoral degree and 7 with master degree. We have 1 expert enjoying the special government allowance of the State Council, 1 Qihuang scholar of National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine(NATCM), 1 national excellent TCM clinical talent, 1 famous doctor of "Tianfu ten thousand talents plan", 1 chief health expert of Health Commission of Sichuan Province, 1 famous TCM doctor of Sichuan Province, 1 academic and technical leader and 1 candidate of Sichuan Province, 2 academic and technical leaders and 1 candidate of SATCM, 1 tutor for inheriting the academic experience of national famous TCM expert, and 4 tutors for inheriting the academic experience of famous TCM experts in Sichuan.

 We have first-class instruments for various examinations and surgeries, especially for urinary calculi, such as Olympus Full HD laparoscopic surgery system, holmium laser lithotripsy system, wolf transurethral endoscopic surgery system, extracorporeal shock wave lithotriptor, Olympus anterior ureteroscope, prostate plasma electrotomy system, prostate deep hyperthermia instrument, seminal vesicle mirror, Zeiss S88 surgical microscope system, RigiScan plus penis hardness measuring instrument, sperm automatic detection and analysis system, three-dimensional sexual function rehabilitation treatment instrument, etc.

With outstanding TCM characteristics, we have an excellent Chinese medical team. TCM formula is adopted in the treatment of prostate disease, male infertility, sexual dysfunction and urinary calculi, and the significant efficacy has been achieved. Under the guidance of TCM theory, a number of TCM treatments are carried out, such as moxibustion, ear acupuncture, herbal fumigation, acupoint application, rectal TCM drip, acupoint catgut embedding therapy, electroacupuncture, and TCM packet therapy. They can improve patients’ quality of life, reduce side effects of Western medicine, and take satisfactory effects especially in the treatment of renal colic with acupuncture and moxibustion, treatment of chronic prostatitis, overactive bladder, chronic urinary retention, neurogenic bladder with electroacupuncture, treatment of chronic prostatitis with rectal TCM drip, treatment of epididymitis with TCM package. Meanwhile, the integrative medicine is also adopted, especially in the treatment of urinary calculi, prostate diseases, male sexual dysfunction, male infertility and great efficacy has been achieved.

1. Urinary calculi

Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy: We introduced the Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy machine and has accumulated rich clinical experience. Combined with TCM, the stone removal rate is raised and the recurrence rate is reduced.

Surgery: The following surgeries for urinary calculi such as kidney, urinary catheter, bladder and urethra were already carried out: Laparoscopic ureterolithotomy, pyelolithotomy, ureteroscopic holmium laser lithotripsy, flexible ureteroscopic holmium laser lithotripsy, percutaneous nephrolithotripsy, and holmium laser lithotripsy via cystoscope.

2. Prostate diseases。

The transurethral resection of prostate was introduced very early and rich experience has been accumulated in minimally invasive treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. TCM is adopted during the perioperative period to achieve the purpose of reduced postoperative bleeding, faster recovery, early removal of catheter and fewer complications.

3. Male sexual dysfunction

The following tests and treatments are carried out: Night penile erectile function test, penile intracavernous drug injection, penile drug vascular function test, penile angiography and other tests, penis negative pressure suction, penile shock wave treatment, acupoint injection, and desensitization treatment. Penile dorsal deep vein arterialization is adopted in the treatment of vascular erectile dysfunction, and great efficacy has been achieved.

4. Male infertility

We carry out the following tests: Semen routine examination, sperm morphological analysis, antisperm antibody, seminal plasma biochemistry, human sperm DNA integrity test (flow cytometry), Y chromosome microdeletion test, testicular biopsy, vasectomy and other examinations. And surgeries such as microsurgical vasectomy, epididymal anastomosis, end-to-end anastomosis of vas deferens, microsurgical varicocele ligation are carried out.

5. Penile plastic surgery

We treat diseases like redundant prepuce, phimosis, concealed penis, webbed penis, penile curvature, hypospadias. Routine surgeries such as circumcision, penile lengthening, penile correction, penile straightening, hypospadias plasty are carried out.

6. Female urinary system diseases

A number of surgeries such as tension-free vaginal tape (TVT), tension free vaginal obturator urethroplasty (TVT-O), anterior vaginal wall repair, resection of urethral polyps and repair of urethral prolapse are carried out.

The hospital preparations we developed are well accepted by patients, such as Qiangjing Tablet, Yikan Capsule, Qianbitong Tablet, Erzhi Spray and Shuiyihuang Capsule.

With great scientific research strength, we have 6 National Natural Science Foundation projects and more than 30 scientific research projects of provincial and bureau level. We lead the making of national guidelines for erectile dysfunction and male infertility with integrative medicine. More than 200 SCI and Chinese core periodical papers and more than 20 monographs have been published. We served as chief editor in writing 2 national textbooks. We have won several prizes of science and technology progress awards of Sichuan and Chengdu. More than 100 doctoral and master students have been trained and our scientific research and teaching capacity has reached advanced level.
