Pain Department

Brief Introduction

Our outpatient service was started in 1989, and the inpatient section was established in 2012 after more than 20 years of development. Our pain treatment is carried out relatively early compared with others hospital in Southwest China. We have 20 medical staff, including 7 doctors, 1 with doctor’s degree, 2 with master’s degree, and 4 with bachelors degree. We enjoy membership of a number of academic societies such as Chinese Medical Association, Chinese Medical Doctor Association, Chinese Association for Promotion of Research on TCM, Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine, Sichuan Association of Chinese Medicine, Sichuan Medical Association, Sichuan Geriatrics Society, Sichuan Association of Rehabilitation Medicine, and Pain Committee of Sichuan Association of Acupuncture and Moxibustion.

Dominant diseases

1. Chronic pain caused by systemic soft tissue damage;

2. Neuropathic pain requiring interventional therapy;

3. Cancer pain that needs minimally invasive treatment;

4. Pain of unknown cause;

5. Non painful diseases related to nerves.

Characteristic techniques and therapies

1. Spinal nerve electrostimulation therapy

Spinal nerve electrostimulation therapy is to appropriately stimulate the nerve area producing pain by small electric pulse, feedback adjust nerve conduction substances, and produce tolerable numbness to replace pain, so as to play the role of relieving pain. It is effective for treating herpes zoster, and has the following advantages:

Minimally invasive: small wound and quick recovery

Reversible: no organic or irreversible damage

Green: reduce the demand for painkillers

Individualization: adjustable parameters to achieve personalized customization

Safety: more than 40 years’ clinical use

Other indications:

1) Low back postoperative syndrome.

2) Chronic regional pain syndrome (CRPs).

3) Peripheral ischemic pain: chronic intractable pain caused by diabetic foot and Raynaud's disease.

4) Persistent neuralgia caused by arachnoiditis, radiculopathy, stump pain, phantom limb pain, etc.

2. Brief introduction of Awn Needle Therapy

Awn needle, one of the ancient "nine needles", is handed down because of its length and can be used for deep needling to treat stubborn arthralgia.

Indications

(1) Chronic pain caused by soft tissue damage of cervical or lumbar spinal canal: neck shoulder arm pain, waist-hip leg pain, head and face pain, shoulder periarthritis, heel pain.

(2)All kinds of nerve entrapment syndrome, such as carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome, plantar tunnel syndrome, etc.

(3)Arthralgia disease: tennis elbow, shoulder, hip, knee, ankle, and other osteoarthritis.

3. All kinds of nerve block therapy

Nerve block therapy means direct injection into the nerve heel, trunk, peripheral nerve block or nearby areas, or the application of physical block of conduction function temporarily or permanently.

Characteristics: the analgesic effect is accurate and reliable, which is of great significance for diagnosis. The treatment range and time limit are very selective, with relatively little side effect.

Indications: trigeminal neuralgia, occipital neuralgia, cervical spondylosis, shoulder periarthritis, low back and leg pain (lumbar disc herniation, sciatica, etc.), tenosynovitis, lumbodorsal myofascitis (back ache and tightness caused by cold, cold, damp and fatigue), herpes zoster and postherpetic neuralgia.

4. Ganglion Radiofrequency Therapy

The principle of ganglion radiofrequency therapy is to use controllable temperature to act on ganglion, nerve stem, nerve root, intervertebral disc, and other parts to solidify the protein and block the conduction of nerve impulse. It is a kind of physical nerve block therapy.

Indications: long-term chronic pain affecting normal daily life which fails to be treated by conservative treatment but the diagnostic nerve block is effective.
