Our Department is the cardiovascular base of national drug clinical trial center, National Heart Failure Center, National Diabetes base, cardiovascular disease (complication of diabetes) center, National standardized training center for TCM residents, Sichuan TCM Heart Failure Prevention and Treatment Center and a key specialty of Sichuan Province. We are a member of Heart Failure Committee of Sichuan Association of Chinese Medicine. We have first class laboratory authorized by Sichuan Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. And a training center for cardiovascular postgraduates.

Our department has demonstration room, CCU, nurse station, interventional operation room，bedside cardiac color Doppler ultrasound room and an in-patient section of 85 beds (including heart failure wards). We provide out-patient service on cardiology.  

Our department is developed from the internal medicine teaching and research section of Chengdu University of traditional Chinese medicine. Independent department of Cardiology (the Fifth Department of internal medicine) was established in 1997. After more than 60 years' efforts of several generations and giving full play to the advantages of traditional Chinese medicine and modern medicine, our department has developed into one of cardiovascular specialty with advanced equipment,   characteristics and can achieve obvious curative effect.

Our department has a highly skilled medical team, including 10 cardiovascular professional doctors (2 chief doctors, 4 deputy chief doctors, 4 attending doctors), 21 nurses (1 deputy chief nurse, 4 chief nurses, 9 nurses, 7 nurses) and 5 renowned experts (post-retirement employment). Among them, there are 3 famous TCM practitioners in Sichuan, 2 experts enjoying State Council subsidies, 1 top TCM doctor in Sichuan, 2 academic leaders in cardiovascular disease, 2 with overseas education and 7 postgraduates majoring in cardiology. Our department has many famous medical experts, such as Professor Liu Yongjia, Professor Wang Weixing, Professor Xie Wen, Professor Wang Lin, Professor Zhang Delai and so on, who are beloved by patients.

Dominant Diseases  and Special Preparation

With the guiding ideology of "holistic view" and "syndrome differentiation and treatment", we have got satisfactory results in the diagnosis and treatment of various cardiovascular diseases, such as chest obstruction and heartache (coronary heart disease), palpitation (arrhythmia), heart failure (heart failure), wind vertigo (hypertension), heart failure (myocarditis), heart obstruction (rheumatic heart disease), etc.

Our department summarized the prescriptions of famous experts and formed new ones, such as heart failure I, heart failure II, hypertension W1 and hypertension W2. Yi Xin Tong Bi mixture, a preparation has been made and widely used in our hospital. Characteristic TCM treatment such as foot bath, ear acupuncture, TCM paste for acupoints, medicated diet, etc. are adopted in chest pain (coronary heart disease), palpitation (arrhythmia), heart failure (heart failure), wind vertigo (hypertension) and other diseases and achieved positive curative effect.

It also aids in making clinical pathway, diagnosis and treatment plan of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine.

Diagnosis and treatment technology

Following the development of modern cardiovascular diagnosis and treatment technology, our department adopt cardiovascular intervention technology and perform minimal invasive surgery, including: (1) coronary angiography, intracoronary stent implantation, emergency surgical treatment of acute myocardial infarction, coronary rotational milling for severe calcified lesions, Intracoronary angioscopy (OCT) for complex coronary lesions, intracoronary ultrasound (IVUS), reverse passage technology of chronic occlusive disease and other cutting-edge technologies. Great curative effect has been achieved and patients with coronary heart disease have been better served. (2) interventional treatment of arrhythmias, including paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, idiopathic ventricular tachycardia, frequent premature ventricular contractions and other complex arrhythmias (3) pacemaker implantation, including temporary pacemaker, permanent pacemaker (single chamber, dual chamber), ICD (implantable automatic cardioverter defibrillator), CRT-D (dual ventricular synchronous pacemaker, anti heart failure pacemaker), etc. In order to get better recovery prevent other diseases, the combination of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine was used after operation.

Our department has the only CCU (cardiac intensive care unit) platform in our hospital, creating a cardiac critical rescue system and opening a green channel for acute chest pain. We provide medical service around the clock and can open the occluded coronary artery in the shortest time for patients with acute myocardial infarction, so as to save myocardium, save lives and ensure the life quality of patients in the future. At the same time, a patient-centered diagnosis and treatment plan (including reception, diagnosis, treatment, discharge and follow-ups) was established.

Equipment

Our department has Eighteen lead electrocardiogram and space ambulatory blood pressure recording box produced by Japan optoelectronics. Our department also has CCU intensive care unit, equipped with bedside monitor, central oxygen supply system, bedside call system, cardiac pacing defibrillator, Swedish servo-s multi-function ventilator, and US Ge bedside ultrasound instrument, which ensure the timely rescue of critical cardiac diseases. With the flat panel digital subtraction large-scale C-arm X-ray machine produced by Seimens company and Philip, our medical staff can carry out cardiovascular intervention examination and treatment more conveniently.
