History
Early stage:
In the late 1970s, the professional group of TCM endocrinology was established. Professor Zhang Farong, the academic leader, carried out research on diabetes and advocated "paying equal attention to prevention and treatment, prevention is even more important". He emphasized the treatment from spleen and kidney, which differs from the theory of syndrome differentiation of Sanxiao.
Former Macedonian president Gjorge Ivanov visited Chengdu and experienced TCM tongue inspection and pulse diagnosis by Professor Zhang Farong.
Development stage:
In the late 1980s, Professor Qi Luguang, the academic leader, carried out researches on diabetes and its complications, especially the prevention and treatment of diabetic foot disease reached advanced level in China. By 2007, rudiment of our department has begun to form.
Professor Qi Luguang’s French student (length of study: three years), the first French to study TCM in the form of apprentice in China.
Comprehensive construction stage:
Since 2008, under the leadership of Professor Xie Chunguang and Professor Chen Qiu, leaders of the discipline, endocrinology has developed in an all-round way. Academic ideas have been further sorted out, studied and inherited, and the medical specialty of endocrinology has also developed into first-class level in China.

Brief Introduction
The Department of Endocrinology / Diabetes Center is the leading unit for TCM preventing and treating endocrine and metabolic diseases, and a clinical, teaching and research training base in western China. We are among the first authorized hospitals to award master and doctor’s degree on TCM endocrinology. We’ve served as the editor or deputy editor to write textbooks required by National Health Commission (former Ministry of health) for TCM colleges and universities during the 12th Five Year Plan. We have two inpatient sections with more than 150 beds and 10 consulting rooms. The annual number of outpatients amounts to 120000 and inpatients reach up to more than 4000. In 2017, it was named National Renowned Endocrinology / Diabetes Department by China Association for Promoting TCM Research and became Sichuan Medical Center for Clinical Research. In 2018, our department was authorized as the leading unit of the pilot project of integrated Chinese and Western medicine clinical coordination on major serious diseases (diabetes and its complications). Since 2018, it has been awarded "the Best Research-Oriented Specialty of TCM Hospital" for consecutive years.
