Brief Introduction

The Department of Cardio-thoracic Surgery integrates prevention and treatment of heart and chest diseases, teaching, and scientific research. We introduce high-quality talents and advanced equipment. We have 30 common beds, 6 beds for intensive care, and 22 professional medical staff. We carry out routine surgeries on large cardiac blood vessels and various ordinary chest surgeries. We adopt integrative medicine to improve surgical tolerance, reduce complications, recurrence and metastasis rate, and promote postoperative recovery, so as to improve patients’ life quality, which push our department to an advance level in Sichuan province and even the whole country.

Diagnosis and Treatment Techniques

Heart surgeries: Thoracotomy and interventional closure of congenital heart disease (repair of atrial and ventricular septal defect, correction of tetralogy of Fallot, repair of endocardial cushion defect, repair of ruptured aortic sinus aneurysm, correction of tricuspid valve downward displacement, correction of total anomalous pulmonary venous drainage, bidirectional Glenn operation of univentricule and other complex congenital heart disease operations). We also carry out other heart surgeries such as acquired heart diseases (heart valvuloplasty, single valve membrane replacement, double valve replacement, bacterial endocarditis combined with valve replacement), cardiac tumor resection, pericardial exfoliation in constrictive pericarditis, coronary artery bypass grafting and so on.

Common chest surgeries:

1. Esophageal diseases: Resection of esophageal leiomyoma, correction of achalasia of cardia, radical resection of esophageal cancer and radical resection of cardiac cancer.

2. Lung segment, lobe, whole lung, lung sleeve resection of lung cancer, lung benign mass, pulmonary bullae, lung cyst, bronchiectasis and other lung diseases.

3. Resection of various mediastinal tumors (thymoma, thymic carcinoma, tracheal cyst, pericardial cyst, posterior mediastinal neurogenic tumor).

4. Resection of various chest wall tumors and chest wall reconstruction.

5. Correction of thoracic deformity (chicken chest, pectus excavatum).

6. Pleural biopsy of malignant pleural effusion, intrapleural chemotherapy and hyperthermic perfusion therapy.

7. Emergency treatment to various chest trauma.

Minimally invasive technique: It is a major feature and advantage of cardiothoracic surgery. More than 300 surgeries are operated per year, in which minimally invasive surgery accounts for 85%. Our Surgical technique has reached advance level in Sichuan province. We have carried out various minimally invasive surgeries, such as thoracoscopic pulmonary bullae resection, lung volume reduction surgery, pulmonary wedge resection, segmentectomy, lobectomy, mediastinal tumor resection, esophageal tumor resection, sympathectomy for palmar hyperhidrosis, pericardial fenestration, pericardial pleural lung biopsy, percutaneous or endoscopic seed implantation. 

Based on the strong TCM advantages of our hospital, we adopt traditional exercise therapy and innovate TCM nursing techniques for lung rehabilitation. We adopt integrative medicine for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiothoracic diseases, so as to achieve an improvement in operation tolerance, reduction of postoperative complications, recurrence and metastasis rate.
